Interview with Jean-Marc de La Sablière (November 2015)

Former diplomat, former advisor to President Jacques Chirac from 2000 to 2002, Permanent Representative of France to the Security Council and Head of the French Permanent Mission to the United Nations from 2002 to 2007. From 2007 to 2011, he is Ambassador of France in Italy.

Interview with Nicolas Rivière (November 2015)

Director of Political Affairs and Security at the Quai D'Orsay since 2014, he began his career at the Department in charge of the United Nations, International Organizations and Human Rights. He then joined the Permanent Mission of France to the United Nations in New York. From 2011 to 2014, he is Director of the United Nations and International Organizations Department at the Quai D’Orsay.

Interview with Bernard Miyet (November 2015)

Former French diplomat, he started his career at the Department in charge of the United Nations and International Organizations in June 1976. He was then posted in Geneva as second counsellor at the Permanent Mission of France to the United Nations. He became director of the staff of the Secretary of State in charge of communication techniques in 1981.Consul General of France in Los Angeles in 1986, he became Deputy Director of the cultural, scientific and technical Department of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1989. He succeeded Mr. Kofi Annan as Deputy Secretary General at the Department of peace-keeping operations until 2000. He has been President of AFNU since 2013. Bernard Miyet also held several positions in the field of media and culture.

Interview with Philippe Douste-Blazy (November 2015)

Special Advisor to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and founding President of UNITAID, he was several times Minister of Jacques Chirac (Culture, Health, Foreign Affairs). Cardiologist, he is also a professor at the Medical School of Harvard since January 2016.

Interview of Aurélie Motta-Rivey (November 2015)

Director at Tilder , a communication agency, since October 2011, she is also Vice-President of  AFNU. She worked at the Press Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2005 to 2007 and became Spokesperson for the Permanent Mission of France to the United Nations from 2007 to 2009. She also served as advisor in press and communication at the Secretary of State for the Family and Solidarity from 2009 to 2010 and then at the Department of professional and vocational training from 2010 to 2011.

Interview with Michel Rocard (October 2015)

Great socialist and French political figure, Michel Rocard was Prime Minister of François Mitterrand from 1988 to 1991. He also served as Ambassador of France in charge of international negotiations for the Arctic and Antarctic areas from 2009 to his death.

World Refugee Day

On the occasion of the World Refugee Day, the AFNU was pleased to interview:

  • Paolo Artini, Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in France and Monaco.

  • Pascal Brice, former Director General of the French Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons (2012 - 2018) and author of the book "Sur le fil de l'asile".

  • Julian Fernandez, Professor of Public Law at the University of Paris II Panthéon-Assas, Director of the Thucydides Centre and author of the book "Exiles de guerre, la France au défi de l'asile".

International Day of UN Peacekeepers

On 11 December 2002, the United Nations General Assembly, by resolution A/RES/57/129, declared 29 May as "International Day of UN Peacekeeper". It pays tribute to civilian, police and military personnel for their invaluable contribution to the work of the United Nations. It is also an opportunity to honour the memory of more than 3,800 peacekeepers who have lost their lives serving under the United Nations flag since 1948, including 98 men and women in 2018 who are posthumously awarded the Dag Hammarskjöld Medal today. 
On this occasion, Ambassador Alain Le Roy former UN Secretary-General in charge of Peacekeeping Operations (2008 - 2011), presentes his thoughts.

Time of Remembrance and Reconciliation

The United Nations General Assembly, by its resolution 59/26, adopted on 22 November 2004, proclaimed 8 and 9 May as Time of Remembrance and Reconciliation for Those Who Lost Their Lives during the Second World War.

International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace

On 6 December 2018, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 24 April as "International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace" by its resolution A/73/L.48. Multilateralism and diplomacy are essential to achieving progress in peace and security, sustainable development and human rights - the three pillars of the United Nations. Issues such as humanitarian and migration crises and climate change cross borders and require collective attention and action. This International Day is therefore an opportunity to reaffirm the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and to encourage multilateral decision-making and diplomacy to achieve a peaceful settlement of conflicts between nations.
On this occasion, Justin Vaïsse, Director General of the Paris Peace Forum, presented his ideas to AFNU.

World Water Day

The United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution A/RES/47/193 on 22 December 1992, which declared 22 March each year as World Water Day in accordance with the recommendations of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED). This resolution invites States to devote today to actions related to the conservation and development of water resources and the implementation of the recommendations of Agenda 21.
On this occasion, Air Marshal (2S) Emmanuel De Romémont, former Commander of the Joint Operations Command (CPOIA), who had the honour of representing the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces at the first Conference of United Nations Chiefs of Staff, currently Executive Director of the Initiative "More Water for Sahel", which he founded in 2018, gave his thoughts.

International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

The United Nations General Assembly resolution 2142, adopted on 26 October 1966, established 21 March as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. This day commemorates the events of 21 March 1960 when police opened fire and killed 69 people during a peaceful demonstration in Sharpeville, South Africa, against the laws of apartheid. The General Assembly called on the international community to redouble its efforts to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination.
On this occasion, Régis De Gouttes, First Honorary Advocate General at the Court of Cassation and member for 24 years of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD), of which he was President from 2006 to 2008, presented his thoughts to AFNU.
